With all of the Chrismas festivities over and settling back into the school year it’s now time to hop into the spirit of Easter and begin some Kindergarten Easter projects! For kindergarten classrooms, Easter offers a wonderful opportunity to engage young minds in fun-filled activities that foster creativity, learning, and, of course, lots of giggles. Whether you’re a teacher, a parent volunteering in the classroom, or an educator looking for fresh ideas, here are 10 egg-citing Easter activities tailored just for kindergarten:
1. Kindergarten Easter Craft Ideas
If it is one thing Kindergarten students love – it is some fun craft activities. Craft activities are not only a fun and engaging part of the day, they also help students develop their fine motor skills and spark creativity. One Easter craft activity that I love to do every year is making an Easter Bunny. Students cut out the different parts of the Easter Bunny: ears, eyes, nose and bow and then glue them onto the head. You can get students to paint, colour with pencils, crayon or use textas to decorate the bunny and we always like to top the craft off with some glitter. This is such a fun activity for students to either decorate your classroom for Easter or for students to take home and put on the fridge.
2. Eggcellent Science Experiment
Another fun Kindergarten Easter projects is to introduce young learners to the wonders of science with a simple and egg-citing experiment. Demonstrate the concept of density by conducting an egg float test. Fill transparent containers with water and invite the children to predict whether the eggs will sink or float. Then, gently place the eggs into the water and observe what happens. This hands-on activity sparks curiosity and encourages critical thinking.
3. Kindergarten Easter Activities | Literacy and Numeracy Booklet
This booklet is filled with a variety of Easter activities for kindergarten or grade one students. There are both fun and engaging literacy and numeracy worksheets that require NO PREP work. All students will have fun completing these Easter Themed activities. This product can be used for: fast finishers, centres, substitutes, morning work and so much more. The activities included require no prep as the worksheets are ready to be printed and used.
4. Egg Letter Matching
Write uppercase letters on one half of plastic eggs and lowercase letters on the other half. Mix up the eggs and have the children match the uppercase and lowercase pairs together. You can also extend this activity by asking them to identify the letter sounds as they make matches. It’s a fun way to reinforce letter recognition and letter-sound correspondence.
5. Easter Sight Word Bingo | Literacy Activities Kindergarten
Are you on the hunt for fun and engaging Easter sight word activities tailored for kindergarten? If that sounds like you, then this Easter sight word bingo game is an absolute gem for your classroom. Designed with versatility in mind, this resource offers a class set of 30 bingo boards, ideal for whole-class participation. Additionally, it provides two smaller group sets of 6 bingo boards, perfect for fostering collaboration and interaction within smaller groups.
6. Egg Pattern Matching
Use plastic eggs in various colors and sizes to create patterns. Set out a few completed patterns as examples, then provide the children with a mix of eggs to sort and match into the correct patterns. Encourage them to identify and extend the patterns using different colors and sizes of eggs. This activity strengthens pattern recognition skills, an important concept in early math development.
7. Easter Math Hunt
Combine the excitement of an egg hunt with math practice. Create numbered plastic eggs and hide them around the classroom or outdoor area. Each egg should contain a certain number of small objects (e.g., jellybeans, pom-poms). Provide each child with a basket and a recording sheet with numbers written on it. As they find the eggs, they count the objects inside and match them to the corresponding number on their sheet. This activity reinforces counting skills in a fun and interactive way.
8. Egg-periment with Colors
Explore color mixing with a simple egg-dyeing experiment. Set up stations with primary colored dyes (red, yellow, blue) and provide white boiled eggs. Encourage the children to dip the eggs into different combinations of colors to see what new colors they can create (e.g., dipping a blue egg into yellow dye to make green). As they experiment, discuss the results and introduce basic color theory concepts.
9. Easter Storybook Adventure with Peter Rabbit
Character Puppets:
Create simple puppets of the characters from “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” using craft sticks, paper, and markers. Encourage children to retell the story using their handmade puppets, promoting oral language development and storytelling skills.
Garden Exploration:
Set up a mini garden area in the classroom or outdoors, reminiscent of Mr. McGregor’s garden from the story. Provide small shovels, pots, and seeds for the children to plant and tend to. As they engage in hands-on gardening activities, discuss the importance of caring for living things and respecting nature, tying in themes from the book.
Outdoor Obstacle Course:
Design an outdoor obstacle course inspired by Peter Rabbit’s daring escapades. Set up tunnels, hurdles, and balance beams for children to navigate through, mimicking the challenges Peter faces while exploring Mr. McGregor’s garden. As they traverse the obstacle course, encourage imaginative play and storytelling about Peter’s adventures.
10. Illustration Recreation - Kindergarten & Preschool Easter Art Actvities:
Want some more Kindergarten Easter projects? Why not encourage your students to recreate scenes from the book Peter Rabbit through illustrations. Provide art supplies such as crayons, markers, and watercolors, along with copies of key scenes or characters from “The Tale of Peter Rabbit.” Afterward, host a gallery walk where students can admire each other’s artwork and share their interpretations of the story.
